in the elegant BLACK ROOM

COLOURS CAN INSPIRE US TO ACTION BUT THEY CAN ALSO BE SOOTHING

Is black a colours? Numerous answers and interpretations have been proposed, but artists use it as a colour.

By its nature, black is a cold colour. When mixed with other colours it loses its character very slowly. Because of its long history of existence and use (Lascaux, 15,000 B.C.) a large number of shades have developed. Glow and matt have enriched its diversity.

The French painter Pierre Soulages, who dedicated almost his entire painterly opus to the black colour with a procedure he called „outblacking the black“ by application of different textures, succeeded in acquiring different light effects in the uniform black and thereby also a wealth of black shades. This exceptionally subtle procedure transformed the glow of one colour into a colouristic value and made it unique in the entire history of painting.

In order to use only black one needs a certain amount of courage.

The painter Dušan Junačkov had that courage and, like Pierre Soulages, he dedicated to the black colour almost his entire painterly opus. This exhibition of works from our COLLECTION will be a particular homage to the early departed painter.

Since black colour gives a certain depth, strength and definition to every colouristic environment, artists use it equally with other colours. It spreads over the canvas to a greater or lesser degree providing the desired aesthetic effects.

Works from the Museum COLLECTION are awaiting you in the BLACK ROOM.
